2021 Division PDW Program: Call for Submissions
The Organizational Communication and Information Systems (OCIS) Division invites submissions for professional development workshops (PDWs) at the 2021 Annual Meeting, to be held virtually. They are an opportunity to be innovative, discuss unresolved questions, learn or teach best practices in teaching and research, debate future directions for our field and organize novel activities that bring the expertise and experience of OCIS members to bear on the challenges that we all face in our daily professional lives.
We seek sessions that recognize the division’s interdisciplinary approach to further the understanding of the behavioral, social, and economic processes at the intersection of communication, technology, and organizing. PDWs around the All Academy Theme of “Bringing the Manager Back in Management” are especially encouraged. Workshops can take many forms such as tutorials, town hall meetings, breakout sessions, debates, roundtables, tours or research incubators – as long as they are developmental in tone and have a clear interactive component. Proposals will be evaluated on their ability to draw an audience from OCIS and across the Academy, potential impact on the professional success of participants, and its innovativeness both in terms of field impact and wider implications for practice and policy.
PDW submissions must be made through the Academy's submission system website. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, 12 January 2021, 5pm ET (NY Time). If you are interested in proposing a PDW session or helping with the OCIS Doctoral or Junior Faculty Consortia you are welcome to contact PDW Chair, Michael Barrett, at email@example.com before December 12th for input and advice to develop the idea.

Please note the following clarifications regarding the duration of proposed PDWs:
- Submitters have the ability to request a minimum duration of 1.5 hours if they feel it would better serve the workshop, session flow, and attendee engagement. The 1.5-hour duration request must be documented in the uploaded proposal document at the time of submission. NOTE: When submitting the PDW in the online submission system, it will still need to be submitted with a minimum duration of 2 hours. If the proposal is accepted, the PDW Chair will reduce the duration to 1.5 hours on the submitter’s behalf.
- Depending on the number of high-quality submissions, the PDW Chair may decide to decrease the duration of any submitted PDW if she/he feels it would better serve the division’s member experience. The minimum amount of time a PDW can be reduced to is 1.5 hours.
